THE KING ROBERT THE BRUCE COURSE

WORLD-RENOWNED LINKS

THE KING ROBERT THE BRUCE

Overlooking the ruins of Turnberry Castle, the said birthplace of Robert the Bruce, and ranked among Golf Digest's Top 100 courses worldwide, the King Robert the Bruce is one of Scotland's most extraordinary links courses. Featuring sweeping views across the Firth of Clyde, dramatic coastal terrain and centuries of Scottish heritage, the King Robert the Bruce is as rich in history as it is in challenge.

A COURSE OF LEGEND

The King Robert the Bruce has been more than a century in the making, with every chapter of its story shaping the incredible course that stands today. Its origins trace back to 1909, when Willie Fernie introduced a second course alongside the iconic Ailsa. During the Second World War, the land was lost as it was requisitioned as an airbase, but was restored to life by renowned architect Philip MacKenzie Ross in later years. In 2001, Donald Steel and Martin Ebert reimagined the course as a full 18-hole layout, introducing the iconic holes atop Bain’s Hill.

In 2017, Ebert delivered the course's final transformation by reversing the direction of the coastal holes to maximise the extraordinary views of the Turnberry Lighthouse, Ailsa Craig and the Firth of Clyde. The course was then renamed the King Robert the Bruce in honour of the legendary king, raised at Turnberry Castle and crowned King of Scots in 1306, and with that, one of Scotland's finest links courses found a name worthy of its place in history.

THE PLAYING EXPERIENCE

Perched above the Ayrshire coastline, the King Robert the Bruce is a dramatic journey through one of Scotland's most scenic landscapes. Complementing the historic Ailsa with a character entirely its own, this par-72 reaches its peak atop Bain’s Hill. The 8th plays from an elevated tee positioned above the ocean, the 9th drops to a cliff-edge green that is celebrated as one of the most thrilling green sites on either of Turnberry’s courses, and the 11th tees off with the iconic Lighthouse as its focal point.

With strategic bunkering, gorse-lined fairways and ever-changing elements, the King Robert the Bruce rewards precision and course management at every turn. With multiple tee options available, the course is as accessible as it is memorable.
